Now this is just getting ridiculous. Mere days after being released from prison, he is once again arrested, reportedly for violating his probation. Apparently, the terms of his probation is that he is banned from going to restaurants, bars, etc. But he was recently seen eating at a restaurant with his girlfriend Estelle Gullit, and was promptly arrested again.
I find it hard to have sympathy for Badr Hari in this instance. He should’ve just lied low, at times he seems like he’s his own worst enemy.

I must say this is very stupid of badr hari, knowing him by his interviews he should be a very smart boy, I don’t get this guy anymore..
Fortunately Badr is not that stupid as you think. It is not that black and white. The terms of his probabation is that he was banned from horeca places. In the Netherlands people consider horeca, places where they sell alcohol. Badr was not in a restaurant but bought a sandwich in a small lunch place where no alcohol is served. So of course he was not thinking that this would be a violation of his prohibition. He saw no difference with buying a sandwich in the market, which would be allowed.
As a fan of Badr Hari, I am critical of him. I reject what he did in the Sensation party, but I feel we as fans should support him in this ‘sandwich gate’.

So now to reply to your statement:
If you think that Badr does not realize that now it is not the time to provocate (by trying out the limits of his probation), than you don’t know him. He did not do this on purpose, he interpreted ‘horeca’ different from the judge, in a way a lot of people would do. Nothing criminal here. If he knew he was forbidden to eat a sandwich there, he would never have done it.
Now I will speculate and only time will tell if this is the truth we could hope for

Law professor Peter Tak doubts that Hari will be convicted jail. “This [release] indicates that there is insufficient evidence for the attempted manslaughter. He will receive a punishment, “says Branch. “But probably mostly conditional or not longer than the period that he was in custody already. Otherwise, they had him held longer.”

If this scenario is true, the future for Badr is not that bad. He might caught again now temporarily to teach Badr a lesson of discipline. Moreover they show the outside world they are not favoring him, of which they might be accused if they release him in January 2013.

I understand the misunderstanding Badr had with buying a sandwich and thinking he was ‘safe’ doing that. But from a man of his intelligence and from somebody whose whole career depends on what he does in the next few months I’d expected more careful handling. He must understand that it is not a minor accusation on his head. They want to put him away for attempted MURDER.
If I was him I would’ve stayed inside until they call me again to court. I remember an anecdote Naazim Richardson once told about Bernard Hopkins, one of the greatest in his class: Once Bernard was training in the gym and all of a sudden the light and electricity fell out. The whole gym was dark and the first thing Bernard Hopkins did was take his bag and run outside. After they asked him why he replied: When lights are of and some girl gets molested or someone gets hit… the first guy to be blamed and to take down is me. Because I’m the champ and have money.
Now that’s a guy who’s career is number 1 and knows how the world around him works…. One day you’re the champ… but once you’re on that highest podium, everyone is willing to take you off that spot!

Sorry guys bad news: Badr Hari gets in prison again for *three months*. He can not proceed against it. Appearantly aside from the ‘sandwich gate’, he also had contact with a witness, which is of course more stupid than eating a sandwich. I am afraid he really took the terms of his release too lightly: he violated both of the two conditions (no horeca and no contact with witnesses). The sandwich I could understand, but having contact with a witnness is just plain stupid.

Some more updates …
First about eating the sandwich. The court also took this lightly and stated that Badr was forbidden to go to places where alcohol is served and a lot of people gather. This is not the reason they put him back in jail.
Second about having contact with two witnesses. The court can never forgive this violation, even if it would like to. As this case gets big media attention, the credibility of the court is at stake. So why did Badr have contact with witnesses? It is a stupid act, but Badr himself is not stupid. What happened? These two witnesses are very close friends of Badr and Estelle. So they are not hostile witnesses who he would threaten. Moreover they were allowed to visit Badr in jail and talk to him. So for Badr it was a surprise they could talk in jail but not when he was released. There is a chance if this was not such a media exposed trial, Badr could have been released again.
It looks like Badrs was not clearly enough informed by his lawyer. She should have given him a list of ‘forbidden’ people (even if they are close friends) and explain everything. She admitted she should have been more clear to him. Now before you think he has a bad lawyer because of this mistake, please refrain. She is one of the most well known lawyers in Holland. To many people it was a miracle she could already release him from prison.

So Badr could have been more cautious, but it looks more like procedural mistakes than provocations from his part. He is the last person himself wanting to go in jail again. As a fan of Badr I condemn what his fighting outside the ring, but at the same time I want him still to fight inside the ring. He is such a sensational talent, not to be wasted. Hopefully he continues to surround him with the right people such as he did recently: Yves Gijrath and yes … Estelle Cruijf. I am often shocked by the hatred against Estelle on this website. I really feel jacked a round here with all this court shit. For the past month or so I’ve heard all this talk a bout long jail time for Badr and all the “evidence” that turned out to be a bout as solid as a piss soaked playing card. An inconvenient truth for most of the Dutch… He’s not the first guy who beat somebody up in the streets…. But what we also don’t have to forget is the guy he beat up. That was a rich guy who has a lot of contacts and expensive lawyers and is willing to do everything to let Badr pay for what he did to him.
True but the facts of the case and what really happened are skewed to say the least. Most of the sources that have come up have contradicted each other all that is certain is Badr screwed up big time and that it has seemed that he has been targeted by the dutch police then again so has the sport of kickboxing in general. But more and more it seems that the legal reprimands are considerably less than first proposed to the point that it looks likely that Badr will fight again.
Some more facts which is in strong defence of Badr:
“Who were the witnesses? These were Yves Gijrath and designer Eric Kuster. Badr knew that they were witnesses? No. But it is worse: the witnesses themselves did not know that they were witnesses.”
They are only friends of Badr who he met earlier in the day, but they were at home when the incident happened.

These two friends are intelligent people. They came to visit Badr, Badr did not look for them. If they knew themselves they were witnesses, they would never contact him as they don’t want him to be in jail.
So it seems like the court put up a trap for Badr Hari by giving two conditions which were not well defined. They didn’t give Badr or his lawyer a list of witnesses. People don’t know themselves if they are a witness. Even people who were not present at the incident are suddenly a witness. So as a matter of fact Badr had to sit alone at home without seeing anyone as everyone could be a witness. Secondly they gave no specific definition of horeca, which means something different to many people.

In additon to previous comments concerning Koen Everink, the one that got beaten up at Sensation White in the ArenA. The police taped all the telephone numbers of those who put a declaration to the police with the motif that they got beaten up by Badr Hari. What really seemed surprising is the fact that Koen Everink had a talk through telephone with one of the owners of Club Air (Jeroen van den Berg) who also claims that he got beaten up by Badr. In this telephone conversation, he literally said that he did not know who hit him and he was not sure if it was Badr Hari. At that moment, Jeroen van den Berg said that he is sure that it’s Badr Hari and he should pay for it without even having proof or knowing what really happened. So basically, what we can conclude from this is that they want Badr Hari in jail at any cost.
