Badr Hari In Lighter Times

Badr Hari has legions of fans, not only because of his fighting skills, but his surprisingly charming personality outside of the ring. Intelligent, and able to articulate his own personal struggles in interviews, he comes across as quite likeable. Below is a well-done video showing this side of Badr Hari.

At one time, he was just a young guy who liked hip-hop and idolized gangsters. The only difference between him and many troubled youth, was his prodigious abilities in kickboxing, a gift from God that he seems to be squandering in the present.

Yes, Badr seems here a very nice and relaxed guy. So why does such a nice guy beat up untrained people without controlling himself? Maybe … roid rage:

There are rumors that to prepare for the K1, he started taking steroids.

i think many many athletes use steroids. badr might be one of them, although i would never accuse him without evidence.

You’re so fucking stupid dude. Badr Hari is a chill dude, but has some anger issues and that’s all. Hari was SCRAWNY for his first few K1 fights. It was only after he was overpowered by Overeem that he actually started to gain weight and muscle because he realized the advantage of being stronger, and he gained this not through steroids. You’re so stupid to even accuse him of Roids, he who has NEVER been caught with it nor has he gained questionable weight in short time frames (as many roider do), nor is he super jacked and ripped like roiders, or anything. Badr Hari has always been known as sort of a rebel and with some anger issues. If you watched his early days where he was just a young teen and in High School, you’d know he was skipping and still had some of that attitude even then. I hate people like you who accuse athletes of stupid shit with absolutely no proof.

There is no tangible evidence that steroids cause roid rage they can cause health effects and in excess can put considerable strain on the human heart this is a reason body builders get operations like a heart bypass. But thees effect appear to be less common that is regularly claimed based on statistics. Just because some one has gotten into trouble as Badr has dose not mean they are bad the world is not that simple. Badr shows many signs of Bipolar 2 disorder add the fact that he is a young minority in a stress filled environment his behavior is not really that strange. The only real claims of badr abusing p.e.d was Zabit Samedov after he himself tested positive and cliamed all dutch fighters are heavily juiced which their is no evidence especially since most dutch fighters compet in thai boxing promotions that have internationally recognized drug regulations including but not limited to iska, wka, wbc muay thai, wfca. Samedov was swiftly shot down by experts due to the fact that it appear he was simply looking to loose the heat.

Although you make solid points, if I had to choose, I would say that Badr has probably used steroids at some point in his life, simply because of how common it is.

However, I agree with you that his anger isn’t related to steroids but other cultural issues, and perhaps him being bipolar. I hope he gets help.

I’m not saying he did or didn’t just that hard evidence dose not exist, being a long time fighter my self I would say that if Badr had used it started with preparation for the 2009 gp even a few months before in the title fight with Semmy there was no indication of use but after that he gained a lot of tone in his upper body which when asked about it he said that new fitness trainer “papa Mike” (not to be confused with Mike Passenier)and his training routine was the reason for the growth. If peds were responsible for that growth they really didn’t do much to boost him.
Now the issue in wide spread use of peds in fight sports is debatable. In mma obviously you would have a good advantage using a bit the raw stringent riods give is good for grappling but is more than a double edge sword in stand up. In boxing and kickboxing technique is much more important than raw strength peds give an expedited growth that provides much less mussel dexterity and over all strength than done naturally. So Striking sports are less likely to have as many users since most top fighters like Saki and Petro in k1 rules or say Ward or Chaves jr. in boxing are much better off without, due to styles that have many elements of striking power, speed, movement etec. as apposed to fighters that generally use power and strength like Sapp or Edwards (I don’t think edwards uses don’t get me wrong) in k1 or McCline and Mayorga in boxing that relied on punching hard and manhandling are more likely candidates. the Desire to get bigger sometimes gets the better of a fighter’s judgement though.

Stephie Daniels: What do you think about the mess that Badr Hari has gotten himself into?

Tyrone Spong: I think it’s stupid. He’s not going to be on the Glory card, a K-1 card, or any card, if it goes the way things are looking right now. I’m no lawyer, and I don’t work in court, so I can’t say anything about that, but the fact is, he blew it, and that’s too bad, because he’s a great athlete. As a person, I don’t know. I don’t have any bad experiences with him, but he’s got himself into some big trouble, and that’s a fact. I don’t wish anything bad for him, but things don’t look so good now.
